Save, share and go back
The editor saves as you work, a moment after each change. Where it saves depends on whether you're signed in.
Browser or account
| What it means | |
|---|---|
| In this browser | No account needed. Worlds stay in this browser on this device. The browser may clear them when it's short of space or the site goes unused for a while, and private windows forget them when closed, so export a copy of any world you care about. |
| In your account | Sign in (top right) and new worlds are saved to your account: on every device you sign in on, with earlier versions kept, and ready to share. |
An account holds up to 5 worlds; the list of worlds shows how many you have. Once it's full, delete a world (export it first to keep a copy) to make room for a new one.
Signed in, the list of worlds shows your account's worlds first, and the ones still in this browser below them. Click Move to account next to a browser world to move it, background image and all; it's removed from the browser once it's safely in your account. The first time you sign in with worlds in this browser, the list offers to move them all at once.
The mark next to the world's name says how saving is going: a tick once everything is saved, a pulsing dot while it saves, and a warning if a save didn't go through (the editor keeps trying).
Share a world
- Open a world in your account and click Share in the top bar.
- Choose who can see it: Private (only you), Anyone with the link, or Public.
- Click Copy and send the link. It opens the world in 3D for anyone, without signing in and without the editing tools.
- The link shows the world as last saved, so later changes show up there too.
- It keeps working if you rename the world, and comes back the same if you make the world private and share it again later.
- Making a world private again turns the link off straight away.
- The map image you traced over isn't shared, only the world.
- The link also has a 2D map button, for the world as a drawn map; a link ending in ?view=2d opens straight in it. Unless you turn off Let people download the map in the Share dialog, anyone with the link can save the 2D map as an image or a PDF.
Go back to an earlier version
While you work on a world in your account, it's kept as it was every ten minutes or so, the last five times. To bring one back:
- In the World tab, under Earlier versions, click Show.
- Find the time you want and click Restore.
The world as it is now is kept as a version too before it's replaced, so a restore can be undone the same way.
Working in two places at once
If a world in your account is changed in another tab or on another device while you have it open, the editor stops saving it rather than overwrite those changes, and asks what to do: Load the latest (dropping the changes made here since), or Keep mine (saving yours over the others).
